Got up early this morning to go run a 10k train run race. It’s been on the calendar for a while but has always kind of been a bit up in the air so I never signed up for it. Went to the race and they had spots left so no problem. It was a well organized race that had 1/2 marathon, 10k and a 5k distances, all on pretty tough trails.
It wasn’t all that hot when we started but I got brutally hot on some segments of the course. The trail was on wide open hills so no cover from trees to give some shade. Lots of hills and a huge one in the middle. It climbed over 400ft over 1 mile. I just made up my mind that I would not walk and I didn’t. most other people round me did. Pressed on and managed to get in 12/160 overall!! 2nd in my age group on top of that. This is the first time I’ve gotten a podium in my age group ever. Small races are awesome!!!
Great organization of the race and lots of food after. They had more food and variety than I have ever seen before. And the race wasn’t that expensive so there might be more of these in the future.
Then headed to Walnut Creek for a quick brunch. Only to bold on home, quickly change in to bike gear and head out for a bike ride. I have friends doing the waves to wine ride in a couple of weeks that came over to the east bay for a ride. Done to their team here. We ended up doing the same 50 mile loop I did earlier in the week. Lots of climbing and pretty tough. Just the way it’s supposed to be!! Difference this time is I had some company and it didn’t get dark at the end.
